Creating Oracle Database 11g Using Response File

Post by jimb »

In this guide, I used the below versions:
Oracle Version: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0
OS Version: Enterprise Linux Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (October Update 8)

- Set your correct ORACLE_HOME
> [oracle@oracle11g ~]$ export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1
> [oracle@oracle11g ~]$ echo $ORACLE_HOME
/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1

- Prepare the Response File. Copy the response file from the response file directory to a directory on your system. This can be found on database/response/ of your installation media, e.g. /staging/database/response/dbca.rsp.
> [oracle@oracle11g ~]$ cp /staging/database/response/dbca.rsp dbca.rsp

- Edit the response file using your favorite text editor
> [oracle@oracle11g staging]$ vi dbca.rsp
> My response file looks like the following. I concentrate on OPERATION_TYPE = "createDatabase", SID, GDBNAME, DATAFILEDESTINATION, RECOVERYAREADESTINATION, TOTALMEMORY and AUTOMATICMEMORYMANAGEMENT .

## String : "<value>" ##
## Boolean : True or False ##
## Number : <numeric value> ##
## StringList : {"<value1>","<value2>"} ##
## ##
## Examples : ##
## 1. dbca -progress_only -responseFile <response file> ##
## Display a progress bar depicting progress of database creation ##
## process. ##
## ##
## 2. dbca -silent -responseFile <response file> ##
## Creates database silently. No user interface is displayed. ##
## ##
## 3. dbca -silent -createDatabase -cloneTemplate ##
## -responseFile <response file> ##
## Creates database silently with clone template. The template in ##
## responsefile is a clone template. ##
## ##
## 4. dbca -silent -deleteDatabase -responseFile <response file> ##
## Deletes database silently. ##
