10205 upgrade & standby database

I have 2 servers which I want to upgrade to oracle 10205.
Server A is Live database
Server B is Test database and standby database via dataguard to Live database.

If I update binaries on Server B and upgrade the Test database via startup upgrade I understand this will be fine.
How do I start the standby ? Will it work with 10205 binaries installed and will I be able to continue with the standby functionality from Server A live database ( still at 10204) ?

I intend later to then install binaries on Server A and upgrade the Live database to 10205 and use the archive logs to upgrade standby on server B to 10205.

Is this possible ?

I know it would be more practical to drop the standby and re-create but need to understand if the above senario is possible.

Hi smac,

I suggest to just drop the standby after you upgrade the binaries on Server B and then re-create if from the backup sets of the primary database.

As I am not confident in re-creating the standby configuration is another possibility to :

Defer the Primary database.
Delete the standby database and clone the primary after 10.2.0.5 upgrade to standby server, startup with a new control file from primary and then re-sync databases.

Would this work as no way of testing senario..

that's a great action plan. it's just like upgrading the primary and then re-building the standby.
